A wonderful time was had by the artists attending the reception on September. 18 at the winery and dinner after at the Volcano Union Pub and Inn.  Our show of art quilts and one of a kind gaarments “Textiles and Tastings 2010” was hung on September. 2 and will run until January 4, 2011.  It is a wonderful show in an exciting gallery.  The barrel room is perfect for the hanging of the pieces and the garments are showcased.

If you are in the area of Plymouth, CA go to 12300 Steiner Rd. and enjoy.

Happy New Year January 3, 2010

Time to organize for a new year.  Studio is almost clean – jacket and coat almost done.  Cleaned out some of my quilting magazines and decided to drop 2 of them (the county Library was happy to have the free bin filled up with 2 good size boxes of magazines.  On to other things.

I have been making Shobori Pole Dyed silk, silk chiffon and wool-silk scarves – gave a number of them as Christmas gifts but love the process and the unexpected results.  Colors and patterns are always such a surprise.  The process is easy but does take time and in the cold winters I have to cure them upstairs in the diningroom – the dog loves checking out all the plastic garbage bags.

The scarf  on the left is done with rust dye and the fabric took grey and  red brown – 14″x70″.            The blue scarf was done with a basic blue and is 36:x36″.    Both were folded, stitched and wrapped on the pole then dye painted.

I plan to spend more time in the studio this year and produce a couple of ideas that have been sitting around in my head.

We had a great snow storm that put us on the top of our hill for 3 days before we could get out but on the day without power cleaned out closets and bag up for hospice so it was not a fully wasted 15 hours.  It stayed around 21 degrees which in California is cold.

Go forth and be creative and HAVE FUN.    Sandy

Long Time No See October 26, 2009

Life does have a way of getting into the middle of everything, but we are on the way back to a slower pace.  Houston was fun as always and I found many fun things and inspiration to enhance my art work.

The show at Shenandoah Vineyards is up until December 1 and is beautiful .  The reception was attended by all the artists and we had a wonderful time at  dinner later.  We have been invited back in 2010.

I have been doing a lot of Shobori dyeing on silk with amazing results.  Will put some pictures up in a day or 2.

Voice Recorded Photos May 8, 2009

I  belong to an 8 part harmony group and part of a women’s quartet and I purchased a Digital Voice Recorder this year.  With this new recorder you can upload your practice music to the computer and then to a CD (still working on the CD) but as I was working on my music in front of the computer I clicked “whats playing” instead of the library and what a surprise I had.  The music and vocal were making wonderful patterns and colors on the screen – got out the camera and started taking pictures.  This is what I got.

Art at the La Brea Tar Pits April 12, 2009

Just returned from LA and Palm Springs and one of the stops we made was the Page Museum in LA.  This is a museum built on the old rancho of La Brea and became known as the La Brea Tar Pits.  They have been doing digs there since the 1920’s and have a wonderful collection in the museum.  They have a higher number of fossils due to the rapid coverage of the asphalt tar.  If your in the area do stop in and see nature at work.  This history lesson started about 38,000 years ago.

The center animal is a Yesterday Camel.

They have a Columbian Mammoth, many bird, found 1 person plus many other animals.  It is a fascinating place.

Had to get to work when I returned – did my Whisper Challenge plus a couple of pieces that I have been playing with.

Been out of the loop for a while and this is probably not the time to write again since I am getting ready to leave for 3 months but here goes.  have been working on my garment for the Bernina Fashion show in Houston and must have it done before I leave for Africa in March.  Have not done much in the spirit of art quilts but have some teaching set up for my return in June.

Have been making post cards for exchange. house1.jpg  holly1.jpg

Houston November 10, 2007

I spent 5 wonderful days in Houston with great friends.  If you have not been there it is a must.  The party begins with the preview night for members and registered participants – then all you can see vendors and quilts.  My roommate Bev was new to Houston this year and was in wonder by Friday morning she had made her reservation as my roommate for 2008.  Took pictures of my piece for the final Journal Project and the one from the book.  Will post as they come out of the camera.

The other and most exciting thing that happened was the invitation that came from the Bernina Fashion Show to be a designer for 2008.  Have gotten the fabric, idea and ready to go.

Have now wound down – back to laundry etc – and time to get back to work.  Flower challenge done now on to Post Cards that are due by the end of December.

 Talk with you soon.  Sandy
